THE LAWN ON D

The Lawn on D is a public space in the seaport district of Boston between The Boston Convention Center, and D street. The lawn is home to Swing Time, and the Halo Swing, two interactive playscapes designed by Howeler + Yoon Architecture. Swing time is one of Boston’s most popular interactive installations for people of all ages. My involvement and contribution to this project includes the installation and take down at the beginning and end of the seasons. During its time installed, I conduct management and up keep of the hardware and electronics of the swings. I perform scheduled maintenance checks where I inspect the wear of the hinges and bearings and replace and repair them as needed. I also build, test, and tune the internal microcontrollers and accelerators that control the change in color of the LEDs. I also do system wiring and periodic checks on the solar panels above the canopy which charge the batteries that power the microcontrollers and LEDs below.
